Brazoria

Joy Ann Rickaway, age 88, of Brazoria, passed from life on this earth to heaven on Friday, November 26, 2021.  Joy was born on October 20, 1933, to Albert and Elizabeth Herreth in Blessing, Texas.  She was the youngest of seven children.  Joy married Albert Rickaway in Blessing on Christmas Day, 1949.

Along with being a wonderful mom and wife, she was beloved in other ways.  She offered childcare services at her home for several families in earlier days and worked as a beautician for more than 20 years. She loved her church at FBC Brazoria and served for more than 60 years in various capacities, including being a Sunday School secretary and church hostess, and she assisted in several children’s programs.

Joy truly loved spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids and always supported them in their interests and activities.  She was blessed with many dear friends with whom she shared numerous memories such as playing dominos, going camping, and traveling to many great places.  Other interests included quilting, gardening, and she loved to cook for her family and friends.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband Albert Rickaway; her parents, Albert and Elizabeth Herreth; all of her siblings Lawrence Herreth, A.C. Herreth, Carl (Sonny) Herreth, Lois Smith, Viola Rickaway, and Walter Herreth; and her two grandsons Nathan Rickaway and Daniel Kimmel.

Surviving family members include sons Lee Rickaway (& Linnell) of Desoto, TX, Glenn Rickaway (& Dana) of Muldoon, TX; and daughter Penny Kimmel (& Glenn) of Rowlett, TX. Grandchildren include Paul Rickaway, Jenny (& Khary) Bentick, Heather (& Brian) Commons, Jason (& Sarah) Kimmel, Melissa Kimmel and Megan Kimmel. Great grandchildren Heidi Commons, Dominic and Wesley Bentick, Hallie, Wyatt, and Beau Kimmel, and also, her beloved dachshund Susie.

Pallbearers are Jason Kimmel, Paul Rickaway, Brian Commons, Joe Odom, Mark Taylor, and Charley Tindol.
