Joyce Galyean Campbell

August 7, 1937 - January 10, 2026

Her parents Cordes L. Galyean and Roberta Bullock were married June 16, 1935. Joyce was the first of 3 daughters born to the couple. She was born in Alba, Wood County, Texas on August 7, 1937 at the home of her maternal grandparents who lived just down the road from her parents. Her paternal grandparents lived just down the road in the opposite direction. The family moved to Camp Chemical (Clute, Texas) in 1943 when her father went to work for the developing Dow Chemical Company.

She grew up in Clute and graduated from Brazosport High School. After moving to Tyler, Texas, she sharpened her secretarial skills while attending Tyler Business School. Her first job was with Tyler’s Chrysler Dealership. She then moved to Austin where she worked at the University of Texas in the Teacher Placement Department. Most of Joyce’s working career was in North East Texas. She retired from what is now known as AT&T after a lengthy career.

From an early age, Joyce was involved in her church and after moving to Brazoria to help her ailing mother, she taught the Ladies Sunday School class at First Baptist Church of Brazoria.

She traveled many miles with her Bowling Club Tournaments and visited cemeteries pursuing her love of genealogy. She served as secretary of her family reunions for many years. Joyce was an avid reader and also enjoyed working with ceramics, crocheting, needlework and quilting. She even taught one of her grand nieces how to knit!

Joyce passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at her home. She is survived by sisters Janell Lowe and Sandra Losack of Brazoria, Texas; nieces, Judy Jackson (Ronnie) of College Station, Texas, Sherry Blue (Alex) of Pipe Creek, Texas and nephew Billy Losack (Misty); 16 grand nieces/nephews; 16 great nieces/nephews and a very dear friend, Jackie Burke of Brazoria, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cordes and Roberta Galyean and Brother-in-Laws, Gene Lowe and Billy Losack.
