Her parents Cordes L. Galyean and Roberta Bullock were married June 16, 1935. Joyce was the first of 3 daughters born to the couple. She was born in Alba, Wood County, Texas on August 7, 1937 at the home of her maternal grandparents who lived just down the road from her parents. Most of Joyce’s working career was in North East Texas. She retired from what is now known as AT&T after a lengthy career.
From an early age, Joyce was involved in her church and after moving to Brazoria to help her ailing mother, she taught the Ladies Sunday School class at First Baptist Church of Brazoria.
She traveled many miles with her Bowling Club Tournaments and visited cemeteries pursuing her love of genealogy. She served as secretary of her family reunions for many years. Joyce was an avid reader and also enjoyed working with ceramics, crocheting, needlework and quilting. She even taught one of her grand nieces how to knit!
