Joyce Rucker

Joyce Ann Rucker was an adored wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was suddenly welcomed to God’s embrace on August 11, 2021, at age 78.

She was born on April 25, 1943, to Father; James Samuel Hagan and Mother; Francis Jewell (Alston) Hagan in DeQuincy, LA.  Joyce was raised in Ragley, LA attending Ragley High School and participating in Basketball and Track. After graduating, she worked at multiple professions, including employment as an Administrative Assistant at Fort Polk, LA where she met Husband, Dwayne Rucker, and had two children: Daughter, Roxie Gurley and Daughter, Rhonda Shepard. Her last career, before retiring, was following her passion as a baker to open a cake shop with her sister, Francis Hagan.

A talented Piano player and an even better baker, Joyce brightened anyone’s day if not with her joy of life, then with the wonders she created in the kitchen. As a true artist, she forever changed holidays with her Christmas candy, Thanksgiving pies, and cookies for every occasion. Joyce truly dedicated her time ensuring friends and family that she loved each and everyone of them with everything she had in her heart. Selfless and kind, Joyce was a light to us all.

She is preceded in death by father; James Hagan, mother; Francis Hagan, and brother; Samuel (Sammy) Hagan. She is survived by daughters Roxie Gurley, Rhonda Shepard and husband, Ben. grandchildren; MeKayla (Kk) Gurley, Ashten Gurley, Tyler Shepard, and Timmie Shepard. sister; Francis Hagan; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones to the viewing on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, from 5-7pm at C.T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home in West Columbia, TX.  Funeral Service will be 2:30 pm on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at Brazoria First Assembly of God located in Brazoria, TX. Interment will follow in Sweeny Cemetery.
