Kathryn Boone

May 18, 1951 — March 31, 2022

Kathryn “Kathy” Reno Boone was a caring, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She passed from this life on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at the age of 70 at her home in West Columbia, Texas.

Kathy was born May 18, 1951, in New Castle, Indiana to Jim Reno and Margery Warnock.  She may have been born a Yankee by birth, but her parents moved to Texas when she was just a toddler.

Kathy graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, Texas in 1969.  Her father introduced her to a love for horses at a very young age.  She started out riding cutting horses and then rode English horses for a short time. However, her true passion was barrel racing and the later return to her roots of showing cutting horses.  Kathy was the Texas High School Rodeo Champion Girls Cutter, in 1963 at the age of 12.  She then went on to win the National High School Rodeo Finals in Topeka, Kansas in 1968. She was a champion barrel racer with the Texas Barrel Racers Association.  She qualified for the International Rodeo Association finals on her great mare, Hyphen.  She wed the love of her life, Don, on December 9, 1976.  The two enjoyed rodeoing together with much success and later spent countless hours hauling the roads qualifying for the National Cutting Horse Association Non-Pro finals an astounding 20 times.  She is a member of the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame.  Everyone agrees that her favorite horse, Thomas E Hughes, brought her tremendous joy since his purchase in 2008.

Most importantly, Kathy was incredibly proud of the family she and Don created, their children, grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She truly loved her family beyond measure.  Kathy had a small circle of people that she considered true friends.  Those lucky enough to be in that circle, knew were loved unconditionally.  Kathy was a woman of tremendous faith.  Because of this, there is no doubt that she is now resting in peace in the presence of our Lord and Savior.  She was deeply loved and will be terribly missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her father, Jim Reno.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Don Boone; her children and their spouses, Kelly Reina and husband Tony, Marty Boone and wife Erynn Boone, Jodie Cerny and husband Clay: mother Margery Dare and husband Pete, stepmother Mary Jo Reno Hawkins and husband Bobby:  brothers and their spouses, Jimmy and Carmen Reno, John and Amy Reno, Charlie and Caryn Coon, Mike Coon, and Scott and Tami Eisaman; grandchildren and their spouses, Bailey Reina-Currie and husband Logan, Rylee Reina, Chance Cerny, Cassie Cerny, Staleigh Crosby and Avaleigh Crosby; and one great-grandson, Rankin Currie; sister-in-law Sandra Boone Glick: and numerous nieces and nephews.
