Lela Smith

On Tuesday, November 6, 2018, Lela Christine Smith went to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born on June 28, 1928, in Bogalusa, Louisiana to Hosea Josiah Bass and Lelia Boyette Bass. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill W. Smith; sister, Zula LeBlanc and husband Rufus; brothers, H.D. Bass and wife Myrt, Raymond Bass and wife Velta; and best friend, Betty Bruce.

Lela was a devoted mother and is survived by her sons, Darrell Smith, wife Paula, and Richard Smith, wife Kathy. Her five grandchildren were her pride and joy: Robbie Richers, Paulette Erikson and husband Paul, Stephanie Taylor and husband Mark, Justin Smith and Lance Smith. She was also blessed with six great-grandkids: Josh and Jace Richers, Cody and Caitlin Erikson, and Avery and Colton Taylor. She also had several nieces, nephews and sweet friends.

Lela served at the First Baptist Church of Sweeny where she was proud to be a member. She retired from the City of Sweeny where she was City Clerk for many years. Lela's favorite pastime was camping with friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Sweeny. Rev. John Price will be officiating the service. Visitation will be 1:00 pm until the service in the Sanctuary. Pallbearers are Josh Richers, Jace Richers, Cody Erikson, Justin Smith, Lance Smith and Mark Taylor.
