Obituary

Leonard was born January 14, 1953, in Old Ocean, Texas to Lorene Tolbert and Webster Brown.

He grew up in the Cedar Brake Community, attending school in West Columbia, graduating from Columbia High School in 1971.

After graduating high school, he went to work for Dow Chemical in 1973 until his retirement in 2000. He returned to the workforce in 2005 working as a night manager for Walmart until his final retirement in 2015.

Leonard’s all-time passion was mowing lawns. Mowing lawns was his form of relaxation and he was meticulous about how it was cut and how the lawns looked when finished.

If you were one of those people who befriended Leonard, you became a friend for life. He did anything to help his family and friends regardless of what was needed or how far he needed to travel.

Leonard peacefully transitioned at home on June 30, 2026.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, one sister, and one nephew.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory, wife, Sharon Griffin of Danciger, son, Leonard Tolbert of Clute, and daughters, Ongela Billiard (Ervin) of Pearland, and Cassie Griffin of Austin, four beloved grandchildren Aubrion, Dominique, Ezekiel, and Morgan; two great granddaughters Aubree and Dymani; sisters, Sandra Farris of West Columbia, and Teresa Brown of Danciger, brothers, Daniel Tolbert (Edna) of Lake Jackson, Christopher Brown and Kevin Brown of Old Ocean, LaWayne Brown (Tina) of West Columbia, and DaWayne Brown (Karen) of Danciger, liyah Brown of Katy, Leandrew Brown of Alaska, Stephen Brown of California. He will also be lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were touched by his love, kindness, and presence.
