Louella Crutcher

Lou Crutcher, age 83 of West Columbia passed away Wednesday September 29, 2021, at Matagorda Regional Hospital after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Born on July 9, 1938, in Crowley, Louisiana.

This Cajun Married Jimmy Crutcher after many 5 cents dances at the local Crowley dance hall. They moved to West Columbia in 1956 and shortly started a family. Lou was a vivid team member of Watts Grocery for 17 years until retiring. After that, you could find Lou and Jimmy at the “River House” at Land’s End of the San Bernard River fishing and spending time together. Her family enjoyed her amazing crab gumbo dinners under the deck followed by boat rides. Lou enjoyed having her Annual Mother’s Day plant sales and seeing her hard work bring joy to others. Her love for flowers never ended.

She also cherished being part of her church family at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in West Columbia. During the last few years of her life, she enjoyed the companionship of Alonso Mejorado. Most of all, she loved family gatherings in her home anytime and was always up for a game of “31”. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Lou is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Crutcher, Son, Glenn Crutcher, parents Adam and Ida Istre and sister, Virgie Breaux.

She is survived by son, Mike Crutcher, daughter, Karen Coulter and son, Tony Crutcher, and spouse Beth; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, brother Ernest Istre and spouse Guanda.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2021, in the chapel of C.T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home, with funeral services to follow at 11:30 a.m. in West Columbia, officiated by Shawn Mullins, a close friend of the family. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest Cemetery.
