Lucile Grace Burttschell

Lucile Grace Knebel Burttschell, 90, of Sweeny, passed away peacefully at her home on June 23, 2023.

Lucile was born to Roland and Emma Knebel on December 31, 1932 in Carmine, Texas.  She attended and graduated from Round Top-Carmine School.  She participated in athletics and was a cheerleader.  She was confirmed at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine, Texas.  She loved to dance at all the neighboring dance halls.

It was at one of those dances that she met Frank Burttschell, and it was pretty much "Frank and Lucile" for 72 years.  They were married at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine on February 25, 1951.

Lucile was a stay-at-home mom until all their children were in school.  After that, she was the library aide at Sweeny Junior High School.  She was active in Sweeny Methodist Church and volunteered at West Brazos Cares.  Lucile was a ‘pink lady’ who volunteered at Sweeny Hospital, and she was part of the hospital meal delivery team.  Lucile was a member of the Sweeny Library Board and also volunteered many hours during the summer for Sweeny United.  Lucile was Woman of the Year in Sweeny, not once, but twice.

Lucile Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Gladys, Evelyn, and Ora Lee, her nieces Sandra and Sue, and her son-in-law Rick Calhoun.  Lucile is survived and cherished by her husband Frank, brother-in-law Howard Burttschell (Marie), sister-in-law Gloria Winters, her daughters Jan Hill (Dennis), Judith Calhoun, Jill Burttschell (Nenette), numerous nieces and nephews and her 6 beautiful grandchildren Emily (Quenten), Brad (Summer), Jeff (Christine), Brent (Wendy), Rachel (Kolbe), Marc (Lisa), and 22 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Wednesday, June 28^th from 10-11 a.m. at the First Methodist Church of Sweeny.  Funeral service to begin at 11a.m.  Interment to follow at the Sweeny Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Brad Calhoun, Brent Calhoun, Marc Calhoun, Quenten Gonzalez, Jeff Hill and Kolbe Hill.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Lucile’s honor to The First Methodist Church of Sweeny, 207 E. First St., Sweeny, Texas 77480.
