Marlin “Sonny” Moritz Morris October 26, 1938 – February 22, 2026
Marlin “Sonny” Moritz Morris went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, February 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Marlin was born in Boling, Texas, to Moritz “Blackie” and Edna Chambers Morris. At the age of three, his family moved to Sweeny, where he would spend the rest of his life. He attended school in Sweeny, completing all twelve years there.
He married the love of his life, Beckie Collins, in 1959, and they shared 67 wonderful years together. In October 1961, Marlin was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Aschaffenburg, Germany, for two years. After his service, he worked for Cut-Rate Homes in West Columbia for 17 years before beginning his career with Dow Chemical as a carpenter. He retired in 1995. Marlin also helped with the family sandwich shop, The Wishing Well, until 1999.
Marlin loved his family deeply and cherished time spent with them. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, deer and bird hunting, camping with friends and family, watching birds in his backyard, watching golf, and playing cards with his grandchildren.
He was baptized in August 1968 and rededicated his life to the Lord on January 18, 2009. Marlin was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Sweeny.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Beckie Morris; his daughters, Marla and husband Chris Baty, and Ginia Lynn Frankum and Jason Huber; his grandchildren, Meagan Baty, Matthew and Kat Baty of Colorado, Noah Wyman, and Trayson and Leathan Huber.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Blackie and Edna Morris; his brothers, Spike Kurts, Chris Kurtz, and Bill Kurtz; his sister, Jessie Gillam, and her husband, Josh Gillam; his father- and mother-in-law, Oscar and Nina Collins; his sisters-in-law, Beth Decou and Martha Doolen; his brother-in-law, Oscar Collins; his son-in-law, Jeffrey Frankum; and his dear friends, Jolly and Gloria Hudgeons.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Sweeny, Texas, on February 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with services to follow at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Warren Rayburn.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Sweeny, Wounded Warrior Project, or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jessica at Angels Care Hospice and Kara Bryant from Visiting Angels for the love, care, and support shown to our daddy and our family.
