Mary Minshew

Mary Ruth Rector Minshew was born March 12, 1925 to McKinley and Mittie Rector in Dudley, Texas.

Mary Ruth met and married the love of her life Howard Minshew on November 17, 1943 before he joined the United States Army. Mary and Howard settled in West Columbia, Texas where she became the proud mother of two children Maria Lee and Mack Howard Minshew.

Mary Ruth was a member of the First Baptist Church of West Columbia for more than 65 years. During her very active years at First Baptist Mary Ruth was always involved. She was active in Women’s Missionary Union Ministry, Bereavement Ministry and she also taught Sunday School – just to mention a few! From her involvement at First Baptist Mary Ruth forged many close life-long relationships and friendships. Mary Ruth loved many things here on earth but she loved her family and friends even more.

Mary Ruth passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21,2020. She was 95 years young!

Mary Ruth is survived by her son Mack Minshew and wife Shirley, daughter Maria Minshew Perry and husband Michael, sister Minnie Carman and husband Bill. Her grandchildren Michael Abel and wife Gabriella, Angela Brenner and husband Joshua, Marissa Minshew Anderson and husband Donnie, Howard Minshew and wife Michelle, Charlotte Watson and husband Lance and James Keel. Her great-grandchildren: Bobby and Lily Brenner, Madison Watson Cervantes and husband Freddie, Shelby Watson, Ryleigh Minshew, and her great-great-grandson Avery Jack Cervantes (coming in September!). Nephews Arley Doby and wife Gail and Terry Minshew and wife Sandra. Nieces Beth Carman and Amy Carman Sanders and husband John, along with many other loving family members.

Mary Ruth is preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years Howard Minshew, her parents, her sister Annie Doby, her brother Billy Cone Rector, and great-grandson Mason Minshew.

With all COVID-19 protocols being adhered to, the family will be receiving friends from 9:30 am until 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at C. T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home in West Columbia, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am with Rev. John Howard Price officiating. Interment will follow at Columbia Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial gifts honoring Mary Ruth be made to the First Baptist Church of West Columbia, 226 S. Broad St. West Columbia, Texas 77486
