Melvin David Harriss, 66, of Brazoria, Texas passed away on January 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Freeport, Texas on May 8, 1957, to the late Charles Harriss and Mary Browning.

Melvin led an illustrious career at Dow Chemical where his commitment to excellence and passion for his work earned him the respect and admiration of all who had the pleasure of working alongside him. With unwavering dedication, he contributed significantly to the growth and success of the company.

He met and married the love of his life, Patricia Prihoda on November 22, 1981, in Clute, Texas where they remained married for over four decades. Together they formed many memories, created a loving family, and bonded over their passion of the Houston Texans.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Melvin was a man filled with vibrant passions. A true lover of the outdoors, he found solace in fishing and nurturing his garden. The thrill of casinos and the adventure of cruises also held a special place in his heart. His zest for life was contagious, bringing joy to all those fortunate enough to share in his adventures.

Melvin's time in the United States Navy shaped him into the remarkable individual he became. His service to our country displayed not only courage but also an unwavering commitment to uphold freedom and protect those most vulnerable. We are forever grateful for his selfless sacrifice.

Outside of work and military service, Melvin cultivated an impressive green thumb, finding tremendous joy in gardening. His ability to nurture life and create beauty with his own hands was truly remarkable. His gardens were more than just arrangements of flowers; they were works of art that radiated with his love for nature.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Prihoda, children Rex Harriss of Brazoria, and Charles Harriss of Brazoria. Siblings Phillip Harriss (Lynn) of Old Ocean, James Harriss (Carolyn) of Scotts Hill, TN, and Charlene Eggleston (Larry) of Forsyth, MO. Along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charles Harriss and Mary Browning.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday, January 5, 2024, from 5-7:00 pm at C.T. Baker Funeral Home 634 S. Columbia Dr. West Columbia, Texas 77486. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, from 10-11:00 am at Damon Catholic Cemetery.
