Obituary

Melvin Ray Wallace Jr., “Mel”, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 74 years old.

Born on May 5, 1952, in West Columbia, Texas, Mel was the eldest son of Maragret and Melvin Ray Wallace Sr., both deceased. He was a dedicated worker who spent his entire career at Phillips 66/Conoco Phillips. He developed life long friendships with so many that he worked side by side with all of those years. Upon retiring, Mel happily traded in his coveralls and hard at, for a red suit to fulfill his ultimate calling and start his absolute dream job, being Santa Claus.

Mel didn’t just “play” Santa; he truly lived the role and believed in the magic and spirit of Christmas. His final years were filled with pure joy of bringing magic, wonder, and smiles to countless children and families, embodying the warmth and generosity of the holiday season all year round. He faced his illness with the same resilient, bright spirit.

Mel will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and the many lives he touched.

He is survived by his children, Matthew (Joey), Michael (Brandi), and Megan (Kevin), his grandchildren, Chance (Kacy), Malachi (Alasia), Morgan, Maggie (David), Merry (Russell), Macy (Tyler), Mya, Mason, Mackenna, Madison, Maelee, Olivia, and Mika, and also 9 great grandchildren.

In honor of Mel’s legacy, the family asks that you honor his memory by doing an act of kindness and keeping the true spirit of Christmas alive in your hearts every single day.
