Michael Albert Collins, 81, of West Columbia passed into the arms of the Lord on December 16, 2023. He was born on July 6, 1942, in Oak Park, Illinois to Harold Cornelius Collins and Maurine McDada.
Michael's educational achievements were commendable. He earned two degrees from Georgia Tech through their co-op program and later graduated with a PHD from MIT in Hydrodynamics. His thirst for knowledge and passion for his work were evident throughout his academic journey.
Michael was a part of the faculty at SMU for 19 years in their engineering department, later in life he found his second passion working for District II in Brazoria County where he retired at the age of 70.
Aside from his professional endeavors, Michael was a World War II enthusiast who deeply appreciated the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom during that era.
Michael married the love of his life, Iva Glynese Berry on November 6, 1993, in South Houston, Texas.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents Harold Cornelius Collins and Maurine McDada, first wife Maude Turner, stepdaughter Janice Creel, and step-grandson Casey Hughes.
He is survived by his wife Iva Glynese Collins, daughter Tracy Collins, stepchildren Debra Eilers of Hallettsville, Scott Berry of Carlsbad New Mexico, and Wendell Berry of Hobbs New Mexico, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Wednesday December 27, 2023, from 11-12:00 pm at C.T. Baker Funeral Home 634 S. Columbia Dr. West Columbia, Texas 77486. Funeral Service begins at 12 noon. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery – Houston, Texas.
