Mildred Ilene Buchanan Carlton
Born June 19, 1935, in Weldon, Texas, to W.V. and Ruby Buchanan, Mildred Ilene Carlton went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the age of 90.
Mildred began her career with Brazoria Telephone Company, where she worked as a telephone operator and later in the switch frame room. After retiring, she continued serving her community as a cashier and courtesy booth attendant at Stewart's grocery store.
She and her husband Ray owned and operated several businesses including a gas station, a wrecker service, an auto salvage yard, grass farm, and a cattle farm in Matagorda County.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray Carlton; her parents, W.V. and Ruby Buchanan; brothers Charles V. Buchanan and Darrell Buchanan; and sisters Alma Womack and Johnnie Mae Buchanan Story.
Mildred is survived by her brothers Walter B. Buchanan (wife Kathy), Horace L. Buchanan (wife Laverne), and James E. Buchanan (wife Linda), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who loved her dearly.
Those who knew Mildred will remember her deep love for the Lord, her kindness, her warm smile, and the way she gave the very best hugs. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she lived each day as a testimony to God's love. Though she will be greatly missed, her family and friends rejoice in the comfort of knowing she is now at peace in her heavenly home, reunited with her husband, parents, and siblings who went before her.
