Oliver Wisch

January 3, 1928 — March 22, 2018

Oliver Louis "Bud" Wisch, 90 of West Columbia, Texas passed away March 22, 2018. Bud was born January 3, 1928 in West Columbia to Frederick Louis Wisch and Jessie Myrle Wisch.

He is survived by his beloved wife Annette; his son Scott Wisch and daughter-in-law Cheryl Wisch,; daughter Dea Provenzano and son-in-law Mark Provenzano; grandsons Matthew Wisch, Zachary Wisch, and Bryan Hankins; granddaughter-in-law Nicole Hankins; great grandchildren Kalyn Hankins, Madison Hankins, Ava Hankins, and Rivers Hankins; brother Bill Wisch; and sisters Ann Crocker and Wilma Isbell.

Born and raised in West Columbia, Bud grew up learning that a strong work ethic, a good education, and honesty were very important. After graduating from Columbia High School, Bud left his home town to study Geology at the University of Texas, and was soon drafted and became a Sergeant in the United States Army and served as a medic. After serving, he attended Landig College of Mortuary Science in Houston. While in Houston, he was introduced to Annette by his sister Ann, and they married July 18, 1953. Having family ties to West Columbia that dated back to 1904, Bud decided to bring his bride back to his home town that he loved, teaching his children the same values that were instilled in him. Bud worked for Philips petroleum for 40 years, established Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest Perpetual Care Cemetery in 1956, and later raised cattle on his ranch on FM 1301. Bud was a West Columbia Volunteer fireman for 40 years, and was a member of the American Legion Post 503 for 54 years. Bud and his wife were active members of Columbia United Methodist Church in West Columbia for 32 years. He enjoyed fishing, going on cruises with his family and friends, as well as trips to the Hill Country. He was very proud of his children, and his grandchildren. His great grandchildren were the light of his life, which became evident the minute he saw them. Bud was a generous, caring, and honest man who had a strong faith in God. He never met a stranger and was loved and respected by all who knew him. Bud was very proud of his home town of West Columbia and the people and organizations within. He and his wife, Annette were very active in the community, and always participated in local fundraisers and events. Bud always put God and family first and loved his country and those who sacrificed to protect it. His big smile and the twinkle in his eyes whenever he would greet someone will be missed by all that knew him. He was a blessing to his family, his friends and his community.
