Onita Boone

August 3, 1917 — June 18, 2017

Onita P. Boone was called to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 18, 2017, at the age of 99 years surrounded by her loving family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all she met. She was loved by all who knew her and never met a stranger. Some she even treated as her extended family.

She was born in Leggett, Texas on Aug. 3, 1917. Miss Nita was the sixth of eight children born to Will C. Price and Dora Estelle Bullard Price. She helped to raise her younger sister and brother after they lost their mother. Their father moved them to the Needville community where Nita met the love of her life, Sam R. Boone, Sr. They were married on October 23, 1932. They raised three children. She was a stay-at-home mom and Sam worked for Dow Chemical Company for 30 years.

Miss Nita was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Brazoria from 1943 until her death. She was active in the church as a Sunday School teacher, member of the WMU and in later years, as a member of her Sunday School class. She was always cooking for her family and anyone who came by her home. She thought she had to feed everyone, and she sure could cook, always making pies and cakes. She took up quilting after Sam retired and made very pretty quilts for all of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even some of her great-great grandchildren.

Miss Nita worked for many years, after her children started high school and college, at Bowman Department Store in Brazoria. She met many of her friends there and continued these friendships for the rest of her life. She and Sam worked at Baker Funeral Home in Brazoria for many years as well, often staying overnight when needed.
Nita is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Sam R. Boone, Sr., oldest son, Sam R. Boone, Jr., her parents, brothers J. H. Price, Clyde Price, Lonzo Price and Shelton "Pete" Price, sisters Beatrice Meadows, Lillian Herring and Corrine Dufner.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth R. Boone and wife Peggy Lou of Columbia Lakes, daughter, Joann Boone Burnett and husband Dan of Brazoria, grandchildren, Michael Boone (Chris) of West Columbia, Gena Boone of LaPorte, Mark Boone of Brazoria, Dina Boone Rau (Will) of Houston, Shannon Boone Haskell of Hallettsville, Darren Boone (Rebekah) of Richmond, Gaelynn Boone Brown (Jack) of Marble Falls, Stephen Burnett (Alona) of Angleton, Sharon Burnett Huffman (Robert) of Bay City, Kimberly Danford Clinch of West Columbia, and Billy Danford (Melanie) of Kyle, as well as 24 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Pallbearers are her grandsons Stephen Burnett, Darren Boone, Mark Boone, Michael Boone, Billy Danford, and great grandson Daniel Huffman. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Huffman, Lou Larson, Roger Shugart, Vernon Mullins, George Burke, Shelton Price, Robert Price, Mac Barrow, and Robert Danford.

Services will be Thursday, June 22 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church, Brazoria with Rev. Greg Smith officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 21, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Baker Funeral Home, Brazoria, Texas.
