Pauline Powers

May 7, 1933 — August 20, 2021

Pauline Amelia Edling Powers, 88, of Sweeny, Texas, passed from this life on earth into the arms of God on Friday, August 20, 2021, in Sweeny, Tx. Pauline was born on May 07, 1933, to Waldo Edling and Anna Peppel Edling in Sweeny, Brazoria County, Texas.

She attended and graduated from West Columbia High School.  She met Roy H. Powers, Jr. while she worked at CPS (Community Public Service) in West Columbia, and they were married June 07, 1952.  She was married to Roy for over 60 years. Roy and Pauline had four children: Deborah Denise, Terry Lynn, William Robert “Billy Bob” and Joy Annette.

Pauline was a full-time wife, homemaker, and mother to her four children until she went to work for the Sweeny Independent School District Business Office as Payroll Clerk.  She worked at this position until she retired June 30, 1995.

She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church Old Ocean, Texas.  Due to age and decreased mobility, she moved her membership to First Baptist Church in Sweeny, Tx.

Pauline was well known for her fried chicken, fried shrimp, jello salads and fudge as well as her willingness to share.  She was steadfast in her love to send handwritten notes and cards for birthdays, anniversaries, sympathy, encouragement, and thanks.

The joys of her life were her children, their children, and their children.  She was blessed with 9 grandchildren: Doug McClure and wife Candy of Glen Rose, Texas, Chris McClure and wife, Diane of Franktown, Colorado, Jesse McClure and wife Jamie of Glen Rose, Texas, George Layne and wife Blythe of Dallas, Texas, Lance Layne of Sweeny, Texas, Seth DiGiovanni of Houston Texas, Aaron DiGiovanni and wife Brittany of Canyon Lake, Texas, Lauren Woodard and husband Lt. Col. Stephen Koether of Waco, Texas and Robert Allen (Rob) Woodard II, DC and wife Lauren of Lake Jackson, Texas. She continued to be further blessed by six grandchildren-in-love: Matt Davis, M.D. and wife Sharron, David Davis and wife Beth, Barbara Eppink and husband Trent, Daniel Davis and wife Joy, Christy Deweese and husband Gary, Curtis Koether, and wife Christy and 33 great grandchildren with #34 due next year.

Pauline was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Roy H. Powers, Jr. and their only son, William Robert “Billy Bob” Powers.

She is survived by her three daughters, Deborah, and husband Michael L. Davis, M.D. who reside in Glen Rose, Texas; Terry and husband Mike Koether of Angleton, Texas; Joy and husband Robby Woodard of Sweeny, Texas; one brother Thomas Edling and sisters Rosalea Vencil and Barbara Moser.

Covid-19 pneumonia took Pauline from her family and friends.   It was her expressed wishes that there be no indoor church services.  She wanted to protect her friends and family at all costs.  Therefore, her wishes will be honored by a private family only graveside service on August 28, 2021, at Sweeny Cemetery, 10:00 am. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband and son.  This private service will be officiated by Pastor John Price.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons Douglas McClure, Christopher McClure, Jesse McClure, George Layne, Seth DiGiovanni, Aaron DiGiovanni, and Rob Woodard, II.

Memorial Contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Sweeny, TX.
