Peggy Wilder

July 23, 1937 — October 3, 2018

Peggy L. Wilder, 81, was born to Thomas and Lillie Holder, and later after her mother's passing, she was adopted by Manuel and Annie Bossie. She was called to heaven on October 3, 2018, after a long battle with complications from Alzheimer's disease.

Peggy loved baking and was famous for her apple cakes and coconut pies. She also enjoyed fishing and gardening. She was an avid sea bean and sea shell collector and spent many hours combing the beaches of Texas with her friend Clayton Teat. Most of all she loved her children, grandchildren, and her precious great-granddaughter Peyton.

She was a Life Member of VFW Auxiliary, Post 8551, and held many offices over the years. She was past President of State District 16 and chairman of Cancer Aid and Research.

Peggy was a wonderful mother and was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and that belief sustained her throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, R.G. (Jerry) Wilder; close friend, Clayton Teat; daughter-in-law, Pattie McAlister; parents; 3 brothers; and 5 sisters.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Doni Westbrook and husband Don; son, David McAlister; grandchildren, David Alan McAlister and wife Mandi, Alexa Westbrook, and Branden Westbrook; great-granddaughter, Peyton McAlister; and favorite nephew, Rick Holder.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 5, 2018 at 3:00 pm at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia with Pastor Paul Kucera of Bethel Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will follow at Columbia Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from 2:00 pm until the service time starting at 3:00 pm. Serving as pallbearers will be members of VFW Post 8551, Tommy Joe Williams, John Shelby, Jack Zuman, Tommy Fletcher, Jerry Garcia, and Ken Thames. Honorary pallbearer will be Gene Kosi.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VFW Auxiliary 8551, Wounded Warrior Project or Cancer Aid and Research Post 8551.

The family would like to express our thanks and gratitude to IPH Hospice, especially Mark Walker, Grace Zapata, and Linda Bruce. Also, many thanks to good friends Linda Greer and Gloria Ashley, and caregiver and friend Lariza Lopez. Also, many thanks to VFW Auxiliary Post 8551 for all the help they have given Mother over the years. This is a wonderful organization that helps many, many people.
