Philip Gregurek

March 12, 1936 — August 29, 2020

Sweeny

On Saturday, August 29, 2020, Philip Joseph Gregurek Sr., passed away at the age of 84.

Philip was born on March 12, 1936 in Frydek, Austin County, Texas to Leopold Paul Gregurek and Sophia Vysocky Gregurek. On October 22, 1955 he married Monetta Lee Hubbard.  He worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years, most of which he was employed by Townsend Lease and Southern Louisiana Oil Company in Bay City, Texas.  He retired from Brazoria County after working there 10 years.

Philip had a passion for motors, trucks, and racing. In his younger days he raced in his #9 on the half mile tracks. Some of his favorite days were spent in the barn working on mud trucks with his sons. He was also a super gardener and was proud of the abundance of vegetables he was so generous to share.  He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Bulldogs and college teams, when he had sons or grandsons playing.  A trip to deer camp was a guarantee that many funny stories would follow him home. For many years he was the King of the Wild Bunch BBQ team (family and friends) at the Brazoria County Fair.  Philip made sure that anyone who came into the tent was fed, entertained, and no one left hungry.

Philip was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother Victor, and sister Pauline. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Monetta; his children, Philip Jr. (Donna), Paul David (Kelly), and Mark Alan (Evette); and grandchildren; Matthew Gregurek (Tabitha), Christopher Gregurek (Stephanie), Jayson Gregurek (Jessica), Yvonne McKnight (Brandon), David Lee Gregurek, Jeremy Yearout (Samantha), Chais Yearout (Liz), Julia Stock, Cody Filipp, and Cord Filipp. Paw Paw was blessed with 10 great-grandchildren, Zachary Philip Gregurek, Bradley Gregurek, Laynee Gregurek, Wyatt Gregurek, Connor Gregurek, Dakota Gregurek, Harper Gregurek, Damon McKnight, Emma Yearout, and Ella Yearout.
