Preacher Liebscher

November 2, 1930 — November 14, 2025

Brazoria, TX

Aurelius “Preacher” Liebscher died peacefully Friday November 14th in Houston. He was 95.

The fifth of six children and youngest son of the late Benhardt (Bennie) and Clara Hartmann Liebscher, he was born November 2, 1930, in La Grange, but lived the majority of his life in Brazoria County.

Well-known to many and well-liked by all, he earned the nickname “Preacher” early in life because he possessed the gift of gab. He was a working man who operated heavy machinery for Brown and Root and later for Wharton County. He was quite dismayed when they “made him” retire at the age of 75. He had a reputation for being an excellent dancer, and he credits his older sisters for teaching him.

Among the things he enjoyed most were cars, a freshly-cut lawn, wrestling matches on TV, and the injured dogs he rescued from the side of the road and brought home to care for. His favorite places to eat were Dairy Queen in West Columbia, Diamond S in Brazoria, and Hartz Fried Chicken Buffet in Rosenberg.

Preacher was preceded in death by his parents and his five siblings: brothers Benjamin and Aubrey Liebscher; and sisters Bernice Broz (Joe), Marciel Bailey (Fred) and Vallie Teykl (Donnie). He was also preceded in death by his nephew, Kim Teykl, great-nephews Davin and Christopher Broz, and his long-time partner, Lois Buford.

He is survived by a loving group of nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren who will forever delight in the memory of his ebullient personality and good-hearted nature. He also leaves behind many great friends, neighbors, and everyone that cared deeply for him as he never met a stranger.

The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to all those who treated him with kindness and loving care in the last couple of years, staff at Oak Village Healthcare, CareBuilders, AccentCare Home Health, St. Lukes–Brazosport Hospital, and Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center Houston.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Tuesday November 18th from 5-7 p.m. and again on Wednesday November 19th from 10-11 a.m. at C.T. Baker Funeral Home 634 S. Columbia Dr., West Columbia.  His funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.  Interment to be held at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest Cemetery, West Columbia where he will be laid to rest beside his brothers.
