Rene Carreon, Jr.

February 23, 1954 — February 17, 2019

Rene Carreon Jr., 64, of Sweeny, went to Heaven surrounded by his family on February 17, 2019. He was born on February 23, 1954, to Lucia Carrion and the late Rene H. Carrion Sr. in Refugio, TX, where he was one of the two most famous people born in Refugio; he and Nolan Ryan. Rene grew up in Port Lavaca graduating from Calhoun High School in 1973. He married the love of his life, Denise, June 4, 1977, the same year he went to work in Old Ocean for Phillips 66, now Chevron Phillips, where his hard work ethic and dry sense of humor were respected and loved. Rene had a special way with children, they always loved him. He proudly coached many winning little league and soccer teams. His most treasured role was Cash and Baron's Papaw where he will always be remembered for spoiling them rotten. "Danny," as his mother lovingly referred to him, was a loyal husband, son, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He spent many Sundays as a member of the Tailgate Team on the Baca's back porch enjoying a cold Bud Light or two and cheering on his beloved Cowboys and Astros. We believe he is in Heaven making deals for the Cowboys to win the Super Bowl in 2020.

Rene is survived by his wife of 41 years, Denise Carreon of Sweeny; his mother, Lucia Carrion of Port Lavaca; son, Montgomery Carreon (Lori Beth) of Sweeny; daughter, Amber Holt (Brandon) of Sweeny; grandchildren, Cash and Baron Carreon of Sweeny and Caze Lene Holt expected in May 2019; siblings, Susan Robinson (Larry) of Allen, Dianna Kile (Felix Lopez) of Bay City, Max Carrion (Tanya) of Bay City, Pete Carreon (Bertha) of Sweeny and Lucy Carrion Barnes (Robbie) of Benbrook; many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends that he always made feel like family. He was the best brother to Denise's four sisters, Vicki, Sherri, Monica and Sheila and a wonderful son-in-law to Shirley Tucker.

He is preceded in death by his father, Rene H. Carrion Sr., father-in-law, Monte Tucker Jr.; and his grandson, Casen Holt.
