Robert Lionel Finch, born on July 11, 1959, left this world on January 18, 2026. He was a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend whose memory will live in hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Robert was born in Falfurrias, Texas, but spent his formative years in various parts of South Texas before his family settled in Sweeny, Texas, in 1968. From a young age, he exhibited a love for sports and music, playing Little League baseball and the trumpet in the school band, while also spending countless hours exploring the great outdoors. As he transitioned into his teenage years and early adulthood, Robert developed a profound love for hot rods and racing, reflecting his adventurous spirit.
He began his professional journey in the family business, working in water well and oil well drilling. Over time, his career expanded to include roles as a pipe-fitter and later with the county, where he operated heavy equipment.
One of Robert’s greatest passions was surf fishing, and he found immense joy at his home on Caney Creek, which was a gathering place for family and friends. He relished the opportunities to fish, barbecue, and connect with loved ones.
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved father, Bobby Leo Finch, grandparents, Leo and Hettie Mae Finch, Oran Knox and Gladys Lula V. Lowe Patterson.
He is mourned and survived by his loving mother, Mary Madelyne Finch; his brother, John Finch (Vickie); his sister, Michelle Nelson (PJ); and numerous nieces and nephews, including Jordan Lewis (Daymond), Shelby Nelson, Jymebeth Davis (Joel), Philip Nelson, Christian Nelson, and Chris Wilson (Morgan), along with his great niece Demi Finch and great nephew Dawson Lewis.
Robert held a special place in his heart for his entire family, especially his nieces and nephews, whom he adored. He also treasured his friends, whom he considered as family.
