Roy Mullins Jr.

Roy Curtis Mullins, Jr., age 92, of Sweeny passed away on April 16, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born Dec. 29, 1926 in Winnsboro, Texas to Roy Curtis Mullins Sr. and Minnie Belle (Patrick) Mullins.

He grew up in the Houston area during the "Great Depression", therefore his family lived with other relatives and moved frequently. This did create a special bond among the cousins whom he dearly loved.

Roy talked his parents into consenting to let him serve his country at the age of 17 and he was proud to be a Navy man. After his discharge from the Navy he attended the University of Houston. He married the love of his life, Nancy Ruth Thompson on Oct. 6, 1950. He got a job at Phillips Petroleum in Sweeny where he and Nancy resided for 60 + years. He was an artist and writer; enjoyed the outdoors through gardening and flowers. He spent many hours and special occasions fishing and bestowed the love of it to his sons. He was also a member of the Coastalaires singing group . He wrote numerous stories and commentaries for the newspaper for all of us to enjoy. He was also a member of VFW Post 8551 in Sweeny and the First United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Michael Mullins & wife, Patricia, Tim Mullins & wife, Crystal, Kelly Mullins & wife, Jodina; sister, Jeanne Sue Mullins; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy Mullins; son, Baby Mullins; brother, Pat Mullins.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 19 at Baker Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019 at 10:00 am at First United Methodist Church in Sweeny with Pastor Arthur Richardson officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Todd Reeves, Nolan Mullins, Dallas Mullins, Cody Mullins, Evan Mullins, Curtis Teichman.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Roy's name to Honor Flight Houston so another veteran can make the trip to Washington DC.

The family wishes to give a special thanks to IPH Hospice, especially Hannah, Mark, Linda, Grace, and Esmeralda.
