Rudolph Lewain Fields was born to Robert and Cyrena (Black) Fields on August 13, 1921 in Ecru, Mississippi and passed away, Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at his home in Brazoira. He attended school in Ecru, MS and was at Mississippi State University when he was inducted into the United States Army on February 1, 1944 and was discharged in April of 1946. Lewain went back to Mississippi State and received a degree in Business Management in the spring of 1948. He and Beatrice Lepard were married on November 23, 1953 in New Albany, MS and they moved to Brazoria, Texas as newlyweds. He worked in Tupelo, MS a couple of years until coming to work for Dow Chemical Co. in 1951 and retired in 1986 as a Chemical Technologist.
Lewain has been a member of First Baptist Church of Brazoria since January 1954. He lived and died in the home he built in 1959 for his family. Lewain loved his home, family, gardening and crossword puzzles and was an avid reader of non-fiction. Since losing his sight he enjoyed listening to mystery and western stories on audio books.
Lewain is preceded in death by his parents; one brother and 3 sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice and children, Michele Fields of Spring; Michael Fields and Maggie of Sugar Land; Donna and Matthew Stephenson of Brazoria; grandchildren, Brian and Lindsey Fields of Corpus Christi, Andy Fields of Austin, Kelsey Patterson of Austin and Erik Patterson of Austin; one great-grandson, Jackson Fields of Corpus Christi, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. Services will be 2:00pm Friday, December 22, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Brazoria with Rev. Lee Rickaway officiating. Burial will follow at Brazoria Cemetery.
