Shirley Scott

Shirley Jean Scott, age 89, was received in Heaven into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ January 19, 2023, just one day shy of her 90th Birthday. She was born on January 20, 1933 in Rockdale, TX to parents R.E.“Doc” Curlee and Zelma “Brucie” Curlee.

Shirley spent her life loving and taking care of others, her big family and later all of her beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren who called her “MawMaw” and who she adored and spoiled very much. Shirley was the definition of Family, Grace and Elegance, a true legacy. She was a wife to her gentle, kind and loving husband, Wesley, who loved her very much. You would never have to worry about going hungry as a lot of her love was given through food and making sure everyone was taken care of. Her love for shopping and always being well dressed never went unnoticed. She enjoyed sitting back in her recliner and watching TMC. She loved hosting big family gatherings, playing card games and sewing. Shirley also served in the West Columbia Garden Club, Brazoria Church of Christ and many organizations and charities. She was deeply loved.

She is preceded in death by her father R.E. “Doc” Curlee; mother, Zelma “Brucie” Curlee; husband Charles Wesley Scott; brother Melvin “Sonny” Curlee; sister Marilyn Orr; and her son Mickey Robert Spence.

She is survived by her brother Marvin “Bubba” Curlee, children Randy Spence, Allen Spence and wife Allison; Daughter-in-law Glenda Spence; Carolyn Gotcher and husband Steve, Charley Scott and wife Kathy; grandchildren Audra, Karri, Codi, Rachel, and Morgan Spence; Corby Gotcher and wife Jackie, Scott Gotcher and wife Meredith, Chelsea Gotcher, Jason Scott and wife Autumn, Blake Scott; and 9 great grandchildren.

Shirley’s Family will gather Friday January 27, 2023 at 12PM at C.T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home in West Columbia, TX and later welcome guests for visitation at 1PM followed by Funeral Services at 2PM. Brother Rick Moore will preside over funeral service. Interment to follow at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest Cemetery in West Columbia.
