Sylvia Gutierrez

Sylvia (Cano) Gutierrez of Sweeny, TX passed peacefully on May 22, 2025 after a hard fought battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.

She was born on March 19, 1952, in Karnes City, TX to Miguel and Josephine Cano.

She is joyfully reunited in heaven with her parents and her nephew, Gary Cano.

Sylvia is lovingly remembered by her husband Joe Gutierrez, daughter Jennifer Permenter, son-in-law Shannon Permenter, son Jeremy Gutierrez, daughter-in-law Jen Gutierrez, brother Frank Cano, sister-in-law Nancy Cano, brother Michael Cano, her beloved grandchildren Shelby, Jackson, and Liam, and Shelby’s wife Brittany.

Sylvia worked at Sweeny Telephone Company for many years. She then worked for Sweeny High School in various positions, her favorite being Athletic Secretary. She had many great friends, young and old, and loved them all dearly. Her favorite pastime was watching sports, especially those her grandchildren played. She particularly loved watching tennis, the Houston Astros, Dallas Cowboys, and Texas Longhorns. Her grandchildren were the great loves of her life. She will be so very missed.

Honorary pallbearers are Crayton Henry, Carlos Locklear, Joseph Olguin, and Bubba Ryan.
