Thomas "Tommy" Alexander Ii

Thomas “Tommy” Carlton Alexander II died Friday, August 27, 2021, at his home in Matagorda. He was 69 years old.

Tommy was born October 23, 1951, to Tommy and Louise Alexander of West Columbia. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1970 where he was a star baseball pitcher and quarterback for the Roughnecks.

He worked at Alexander Lumber Yard, in West Columbia, until he and his best buddy and cousin, Steve Alexander, took off on the adventure of their lives to Montana. The cousins spent two years bouncing around the gorgeous scenery of the Pacific Northwest, working on cattle ranches, and making memories that lasted a lifetime.

Tommy loved life. He insisted on family reunions to keep his family close and made friends everywhere he went. He kept us laughing, telling jokes. He had a mischievous smile and a hunger for fun.

Tommy never shied away from an opportunity. Country Tom opened the first Sonic in West Columbia, another in Lake Jackson on Plantation Drive and a third on Highway 288-B in Clute. He turned those drive-ins into destinations.

He also owned Celebrity Lawn Care, drove his own big rig, ran for Justice of the Peace, tied on an apron and worked the bbq pits for Pitmeisters, winning ribbons at the Brazoria County Fair.

Tommy loved to cook. He loved to hunt. He loved fishing, and he loved his wife, Faye, and son, Bubba. From the day he saw Faye, he loved her, and she shared in all his adventures, the biggest of which was parenthood. Tommy was the best kind of dad, the one who was happy and showed his son how to enjoy life. He took Bubba with him everywhere, and was his biggest cheerleader when Bubba decided to earn his living as a fishing guide.

When Bubba’s three girls, Elizabeth, Natalie and Julianna, were born, Tommy relished his new title of Papa. He and Faye learned all about tiaras and cheerleading, and taught those girls how to hunt and fish too.

Tommy loved his schnauzer, Dynk, so much so that when Dynk I passed, he got another schnauzer and named him Dynk. Dynk was Tommy’s constant companion, riding in the truck and going on adventures.

It’s hard to cram a lifetime of love and laughter into a few words. With both hands, Tommy grabbed at everything life had to offer, making memories and friends every day.  Larger than life. A happy soul.  His death leaves a gaping hole, and a reminder to get the most out of every day.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Faye Long Alexander, of Matagorda; his son, Thomas Carlton Alexander III, of Lake Jackson; three granddaughters,  Elizabeth Alexander, of Waco; Natalie and Julianna Alexander, of West Columbia; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Connie and Winston Avera, of Lake Jackson; and Becky and Rex McCall, of West Columbia; brother-in-law, David Robertson and wife, Annette, of Stanton, Texas. He had three nieces, Susan Avera Holt and husband,Brian, of Lake Jackson, Merryann Avera, of Pearland, Alyssa and Jonathan Helmcamp; and one nephew, Buddy and Shannon Robertson; as well as numerous cousins.

A memorial service celebrating Tommy's life will be held Sunday, November 14, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the West Columbia Heritage Hall
