Tony Clark

April 19, 1948 — November 25, 2020

West Columbia

Tony Robert Clark, 72, of West Columbia, Texas, passed away on November 25th, 2020. He slipped from this earthly realm at his home suddenly and unexpected.

Tony was born April 19, 1948 in Bay City, Texas to Ansel Robert Clark and Mary Skrla.  He was raised by Werner “Tiny” Flessner after the loss of his father when he was 3 years old. Tony graduated from Columbia-Brazoria High School in 1966 and was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war where he served with honor. He was assigned to the 523rd Engineering Co. where he rose to the rank of E5 overseeing construction of bridges, dams, and bulkheads up and down the Mekong River Delta. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.  After receiving an Honorable discharge, Tony joined the Pipefitters 211 Union and began his career as a pipefitter and eventually moving onto various engineering companies as a piping material specialist. He also gave back to his community by being elected to the Brazoria city council as well as coaching little league baseball. Tony also was a certified scuba diver and obtained his Divemaster certification through PADI.

Tony had one child, Jason Robert Clark, who was his son from “tip to tail.” The two were never far apart. In his retired years, he spent every waking moment with Jason. Tony loved tending to his land and Longhorn cows, mowing for and assisting various family members, restoring classic cars, attending car shows with his son and watching the University of Alabama play football.

In addition to Jason and his family of Brazoria, Tx, Tony is survived by his sister, Marjorie Lynn Clark and brother, James Ray Clark of Brazoria, Tx. He was preceded in passing by his father Ansel Robert, mother Mary, Step-father “Tiny” Flessner, and half-brother Danny Lee Flessner.

The funeral service will be held at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia, Tx on Friday, December 4th, at 2pm. There will be visitation at the same location on Thursday December 3rd from 6pm-8pm.
