Wendell Beene, Sr.

October 4, 1944 — April 22, 2017

Wendell Doyle Beene, Sr. passed away peacefully on April 22, 2017 in Angleton.

Wendell, Sr. was born October 4, 1944 in Angleton, Texas. He graduated from Angleton High School in 1963 and from Texas A&M in 1973. Between high school and college, he served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was very proud of his military service.
Following a career in sales he stated he wanted a job that helped people. He then became a teacher and principal of a charter school in Houston. He also taught and coached basketball in Damon before the Houston Charter school job.

It was at the Charter School that his true calling really took hold, many parents came up to him every year at graduation with tears in their eyes to thank him for his positive impact on their children.

Many of these first and second generation immigrant students went on to become teachers, electricians, lawyers, other trades, doctors, other professions and to serve in the military. Wendell was used by God to help many troubled and rudderless young people to embrace their American dream.

Left to cherish his memory are: son, Wendell Beene Jr. of Lyon, France and Wendell's family, wife, Audrey, sons, AJ and Morgan; son Sean Beene of Angleton of Angleton and Sean's family, wife, Tawnya, and daughter, Zoe; daughter, Shannon Beene Beeler and Shannon's family husband, James; son, Wyatt and daughter, Reagan of Houston. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Beene of Marietta, GA and nieces and nephews.
Wendell, Sr. was in the process of reading the Bible during the last six months of his life. He had read the New Testament and the Old Testament through the book of Ruth. He mentioned several times the term, crossing over Jordan and now, he has, indeed, crossed over himself.

A memorial will be held later in the summer when Wendell, Jr and his family are visiting from France.

Much thanks to Cypress Woods Nursing Home in Angleton and AMED Hospice Care.
