William Montgomery Greenwood, II

William (Bill) Montgomery Greenwood, II, beloved husband and father passed away peacefully in Houston on July 23,2025 at the age of 85. He was the second child of Fay Dell and Dr. William Greenwood of West Columbia.

During his growing up years in West Columbia, Bill was like the Pied Piper of dogs and could be found wherever a bunch of dogs were gathered. Bill graduated from the Shriner Institute in Kerrville, went on to Wharton Jr. College and Sam Houston State University. He spent time as a reservist in the army. However, he was a man that did not like too many rules and was a man of many interests, had a wonderful sense of humor and could have been a standup comedian with his many “lies”, as he liked to call them. He was also a charmer and somehow most often managed to get out of speeding tickets.

He was an avid and brilliant chess player, as well as a swimmer, bicyclist and motorcyclist. But most of all he was passionate and proud of his ancestry and researched his Texas heritage unravelling the mystery of his family roots for his children and future generations. He became active in the Sons of the American Revolution and Sons of the Confederate Veterans. Even in the dark days of dementia, he loved to tell others “My father was a doctor, my grandfather was a doctor, and my grandfather was a doctor in the Civil War, but I was not a doctor”. Bill was a true believer in his faith and was a regular attendee at Community Bible Study and a faithful member of the Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church. More than anything, Bill adored his family with his whole heart.

He left Exxon Mobile to start his own computer laptop pipeline tracking system called Enviropipe, which he ran successfully until his retirement. His next love was motorcycling with his friends for many years, followed by his other talent – shooting. He spent hours at the Greenwood Gun Club keeping his marksmanship sharp.

For all his retired years he met with a group of buddies for coffee most morning where he said they would tell each other “lies”! His most favorite place was The Local where he would order his favorite snacks of green fried tomatoes, fried calamary and a glass of chardonnay.

He was predeceased by his parents Dr. William and Fay Dell Greenwood. He leaves behind to grieve are his wife, Marlies Greenwood, his daughters Vickey Teague (Bobby), Amy Greenwood, stepchildren Deborah Schueren (Bob), John Goode (Pari), grandchildren, Allison Lach (Bryant), Dillon Creasser (Melisa), Matthew Scheuren, Zach Goode, Ethan Goode, great-grandchildren, Addie and Santiago Creasser, Brooks and Brady Lach. Also survived by his sister Nancy Finch, and many nieces, nephews, relatives & friends.

Serving as pallbearers are Monty Finch, Dillon Creasser, Bobby Teague, Bryant Lach, Bill Primrose and Juan Chapa.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Saturday August 2nd from 10-11 AM at the Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 102 Yaupon St Lake Jackson, TX. Funeral service begins at 11:00 AM at the church. William will be laid to rest at a graveside service at 2:00 PM at Old Columbia Cemetery, West Columbia.
