William Henderson

William “Bill” Henderson, 88, of Brazoria, Texas went to meet his Father on January 5, 2022.

Bill is survived by his children, son Dennis Henderson (Elizabeth) of Brazoria; daughter Kendal Denise Rylander (Charles) of Lake Jackson, sister Ann, brothers; Jackie and Lanny, step-sons Gary Hayes (Toni) of Sugarland; and Richard Hayes of Freeport.  Grandchildren include Courtney Townsend of Freeport, Meagan McDaniel of Fort Worth, Kristin McDaniel of Lake Jackson and Jessica Henderson of Nederland.  Great grandchildren include Bud and Zoe Townsend of Freeport.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his previous wife Janelda, and his current wife Hazel, sisters; Beth, Joan and Ruth, Brothers; Lester, Loren, and a grandson; Eric Henderson.

Bill was born August 13, 1933 in Crockett, Texas to his parents L.W. and Hula Mae Henderson. He grew up in the Bay City area and learned the meaning of work at a very young age. He worked several jobs throughout his youth and helped the family.   Bill had eight siblings and enjoyed his childhood fun which continued through adulthood.  He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served several years.  During a North Korean assault in 1952, Bill was involved in an explosion and suffered a severe concussion.  He was awarded a Purple Heart for his wounds.

Bill was retired from the Corps of Engineers.  He helped maintain the Brazos River Floodgates and the Colorado River Floodgates for forty years.  He also held part time jobs inspecting ships and barges, driving the Brazos Pilot boat, and commercial diving.  Bill always welcomed opportunities to work.

Bill was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys.  He enjoyed coaching from his living room chair and recalling famous games from the Tom Landry era.  He also loved Hank Williams and enjoyed his music for a lifetime.  Bill will be greatly missed by friends and family.

A private memorial service celebrating Bill’s life will be held Monday January 10, 2022 at 11:00 am at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, Texas.

Memorials can be made in Bill’s name to the American Cancer Society.  The family would like to thank the staff of:  The University of Texas Medical Branch Angleton and Galveston, Sweeny Hospital, Sweeny House, and Country Village in Angleton.
