William Keener

William (Bill) Milton Keener Sr, 86, of Sweeny, Texas passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2021. Bill (better known to family and friends as "Pop") was born July 31, 1934 in Stratford, Texas to Raymond (Pappy) and Ava (Gaga) Garoutte Keener. He graduated Stratford High School and was married to his sweetheart Leatrice Joy (Armstrong) Keener for 63 years.  He was hired and worked for Phillips 66 in Cactus, Texas before transferring to the Sweeny Refinery in 1965 where he retired in 1996.  During retirement he enjoyed traveling, camping and gardening with his wife Joy until her passing in 2016. His real passion during retirement though was his grand children (Alex, Grant, and Blake) and then his great grand children (Hunter, Brelynn, Jackson, and Blakely).

He is survived by sister, Jean Beth Boren and brother Grant Keener and wife Benita, sons Bill Keener and wife Sandy, David Keener and wife Tina.  Grandsons, Alex Keener and wife Catherine, Grant H. Keener, Blake Keener and wife Monica.  Great-grandchildren, Hunter Keener, Brelynn Keener, Zak Schulz, Jackson Keener and Blakely Keener.  Numerous nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Alex Keener, Grant H. Keener, Blake Keener, Doug Dunham, Rodney Nelson and John Gholson.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon prior to the services at First United Methodist Church, Sweeny.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at First United Methodist Church, Sweeny.

Interment will follow at Sweeny Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to First United Methodist Church, Sweeny, Tx or American Heart Association or to the charity of ones choosing.

The church has requested that appropriate measures should be observed in consideration of the COVID guidelines, including mask and social distancing when appropriate.
