Arthur "Art" Ramirez

October 23, 1945 ~ March 1, 2022 (age 76)


Art Ramirez, age 76, of Brazoria, TX passed away on March 1, 2022. Art was born on October 23, 1945, to Guadalupe and Pilar Ramirez in New Gulf, Texas. After graduating from Boling High School, he attended The University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in math in 1968. He taught and coached at Flatonia High School for two years before he went to work for Dow Chemical and settled in Brazoria. He worked at Dow for thirty-four years and retired in 2004. After retirement, he helped his wife build the family business until his second retirement. He was married to Rosa (Garza) and was the father to Oliver, Omar, and Paula.

Art was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. He volunteered for numerous nonprofit organizations over his life. He enjoyed traveling, especially on his motorcycle, and was always working on a project. He was also an avid dog lover and adopted many dogs from local shelters. His legacy will live on through his many stories and his community service.   

Art is survived by his wife of 45 years Rosa; his children Oliver (Tawnya) Ramirez, Omar Ramirez, and Paula (Armen III) Dohanian; his grandchildren Lilliana Ramirez, Vera Dohanian, and Armen IV Dohanian; numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews; and his dog Toledo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Paul, Manuel, Joe, Rudy, Carolina, and Amelia.

Visitation will be at the C.T. Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia TX on Sunday, March 6, 2022, starting at 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with a rosary service starting at 4:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Sweeny, TX at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2022, with Father Preston Quintela presiding. Burial will be held at a later date at a cemetery in Mexico.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice supporting animal shelters, immigration and refugee rights, and voter registration efforts.
