Carroll (Jackie) Clyde Reid, Jr., 76, of Lake Jackson, Texas passed from this life on Tuesday, January 12, 2021.
Named at birth Carroll Clyde Reid, Jr. he was affectionately known by all his friends and family as “Jackie.” He was born on December 31, 1944 in Galveston, Texas to Carroll Clyde Reid, Sr. and Victorine Stone Reid. Jackie grew up in West Columbia and often shared wonderful memories of time spent with his family and friends. He is a graduate of Sam Houston State University. For a short time after graduation, he taught school and coached but decided to leave and go to work for his father at his company Foundation and Construction in Freeport, Texas. After his father passed away in 1975 Jackie took over the company and ran it successfully for many years until he retired in 2009.
Jackie was an avid sportsman who loved hunting, scuba diving and especially spearfishing. Shortly after taking up scuba diving, he decided to give underwater photography a try and it proved to be a lifelong love that he excelled at. He and his wife Mary Lou travelled all over the world scuba diving and taking underwater photos. In the last few years, he added photographing birds and travelled to Costa Rica and Ecuador to photograph hummingbirds and other wildlife. Jackie loved sharing his photos with everyone he met. Jackie was a member of the Houston Underwater Photography Society and won the photographer of the year for many years.
Jackie is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; his daughter, Wendy Reid of Charlotte, North Carolina; and his sister, Kay Stairs of Angleton. He is also survived by four nephews and many cousins.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at C. T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home in West Columbia. Burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest. The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 am until service time.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Lenderman, Adam Martin, Martin Bomer, Dennis Deavenport, Billy Baker, and Ken Knezick. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Cunningham, Johnny Brooks, his “Whataburger friends”, his HUPS friends, and his card playing friends.
