Johnnie Ray Carpenter

August 26, 1951-January 25, 2021

 

Johnnie Ray Carpenter, 69, of Brazoria Texas, passed away peacefully on the morning of January 25, 2021.

 

He was born on August 26, 1951 in Freeport, Texas to Marcus Ray Carpenter and Mable Dean Hale. 

Johnnie was the 2nd of 8 children. 

Johnnie graduated from Brazosport High School in 1969. Following graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1971 to 1972.  Following his service, he managed a successful bowling venue and in subsequent years opened and managed, The Straw Hat, a family owned and operated restaurant, for over 10 years. 

 

Johnnie was hardworking and an inventive do-it-yourselfer. He always had a new project in the works.  Whether he would be working on a home or boat project or cooking up something in the kitchen, he always gave 110 percent!  He loved entertaining friends and family and never met a stranger.  He would give anyone the shirt off his back.  Johnnie enjoyed making others laugh.  His smile and contagious laughter is something we will cherish and miss dearly.

 

Johnnie and Sherry were married on February 13, 2004; They were married for almost 17 years.

Johnnie and Sherry; together with their blended family, share 21 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

He is survived by his children, Marcus, Michelle, Cassandra, and Codie. His sisters, Brenda Vance, Sheila Prisco, Cheryl McCreight, Gina Edling, and Reba Robinson Allen.

 

Preceding him in death are his Mother, Mable Dean Hale; Father, Marcus Ray Carpenter; Sisters, Mildred Pourteau and Diana Carpenter; and Son-Johnnie Ray Carpenter, Jr.

 

He will always be remembered as a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 29th from 5-7pm at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia. Family is welcome to arrive at 4pm. Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 30th at 11am at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia, followed by the graveside service at Sweeny Cemetery.
